Fancy a Pint?
Dublin’s pub culture is strong – like, really strong. A trip to Ireland isn’t complete without a stop for a pint (or two) at one of the many pubs. You’ll no doubt run into more than we can count, but we wanted to share a few of the local favorites, as well as some of the pubs we were lucky to visit.
The Brazen Head
Claiming to be one of the oldest pubs, dating back to 1198, the Brazen Head is a Dublin institution. Usually hopping with tourists, the Brazen Head has a great beer garden, hearty Irish meals, and music from 9pm.
The Long Hall
The historic charm of these pubs are a massive draw for locals and tourists alike. The Long Hall has gone virtually unchanged since its opening in the Victorian Days and gives visitors the chance to step back in time – don’t worry, they had Guinness then, too.
The Palace Bar
Mentioned in another of our blog posts, this Temple Bar pub is an excellent choice for whiskey drinkers. Their location in the touristy part of town might throw you off, but be sure to step in to cozy up with a pint or a dram in the middle of Dublin’s hustle and bustle.
The Temple Bar
We can’t go without mentioning this one! The Temple Bar is a bucket list item for many visitors to Dublin. Expect a crowd of tourists and loud (American) music, but enjoy the upbeat vibe and be able to say “I went!”
The Swan
This family-owned pub has been popular for years. It’s Victorian interiors are a large draw for those looking to stop by and cozy up. For anyone feeling hungry during their pub crawl, pizza is available inside from the nearby Dublin Pizza Co.
The Stag’s Head
One of our favorites we visited, the Stag’s Head is an amazing spot to post up with a pint. It’s historic charm and variety of spaces make it an excellent choice to immerse yourself in Dublin bar culture. If you’re lucky to get a sunny Irish day, enjoy your pint out on the street and take in the city life.
While this list is nowhere near comprehensive of the pub culture in Dublin, we highly recommend you take some time to rock up, grab a seat, and enjoy the Irish pace of life. Sláinte!
