Ask the Grooms

What do you love most about each other?

Colin

“I love that Chris cares so deeply about the people in his life. He’s brilliant, kind, loyal, funny, and always down for an adventure. I’m not sure I can ask for much more.”

Chris

“Colin is the most caring, kind, and funny person you will ever meet. I love how much he supports me, his family, and his friends. I love that he can put a smile on my face on my worst days. I love that I can count on one hand the number of times we haven’t said good night in the past 5 years.”

Tell us your version of the engagement story

Chris

Leading up to our second trip to Quebec City in the dead of winter (why do we keep doing this?), I knew the Frontenac that we had admired on our first trip as a couple four years prior would provide the perfect spot for a proposal. I set plans in motion, and hoped Colin didn’t catch on to my nerves. Walking to the edge of the boardwalk outside the Chateau, I saw our mark (which I had staked out with the help of multiple years of street view imagery), stumbled through my prepared short speech, and got down on one knee. I remember double-checking that Colin actually said “Yes!” and everything else became a blur. I know there were people around, but on this beautiful night, they all became invisible.

Colin

We made the wintertime trek up to Quebec City and had a fun time at the Christmas market there (shout out to the mulled wine). We walked down in front of the Chateau Frontenac and pretended it wasn’t freezing while we looked back on our first trip there as a couple four years prior. The emotions took full control, so I don’t remember much in the actual moment, but I know Chris said some incredible words and I mustered up an eloquent “YES!” As I remember it - and you can take this with a grain of salt - we were the only people there, the weather instantly warmed up, and the hotel was all lit up just for that moment.

What’s your favorite memory together so far?

Colin

Chris and I have been fortunate to make some amazing memories together. If I had to pick a favorite it would be one of the last nights on our trip to Venice. We spent the morning dodging crowds and wound up heading back to the rooftop pool at our hotel (yes, Chris booked it with credit card points). The weather, the sunset, and the view of the city across the lagoon were unreal. The setting was amazing, but taking that moment to stop and enjoy it all has stayed with me. We chatted for hours and enjoyed some delicious food and drinks and simply felt lucky to be there and even luckier to be there together.

Chris

This was the hardest question Colin asked me to answer - it’s impossible to choose one favorite. We are so lucky to be able to travel the world, and we’ve made memories together in so many places. Yet, some of my favorite memories have been made at home. Laughing in our kitchen as we made the worst meal we ever crafted (bland chicken tacos, if you must know), threw it in the trash, and ordered pizza before settling in for a movie night. The excitement of another DIY project in our apartment. Surprise birthday parties with our best friends. Watching Colin with Adrian as he has grown. These are the memories that bring the widest smile to my face.

What are you looking forward to in your future together?

Chris

“Having the opportunity to start a family, travel, and make more memories is something I’ll never take for granted. Plus, calling Colin my husband is something I look forward to. And that starts on October 10th with all of you.”

Colin

“I’m looking forward to more adventures around the world, starting our family, and making the kinds of memories that make me want to edit my answer to the previous question over and over again.”
